Abstract

The Waste Place is a place to temporarily accommodate waste. Some public places such as parks, markets, and housing and shopping complexes always have waste place that can be found on the side of the road. When the high level of waste in the waste place is full, the waste must be transported immediately, because if it is not immediately transported it can cause an unpleasant odour so that it can disturb the environment which becomes uncomfortable and can even lead to disaster in the form of disease outbreaks. In this research, the design of a Waste Place Control and Monitoring System Using the HC-SR501 PIR (Passive Infra-Red) Sensor and the Arduino-based HC-SR04 Ultrasonic Sensor with Internet Access (IoT) has been carried out. In designing the system, the HC-SR501 PIR (Passive Infra-Red) sensor is used as an object / motion detector, the HC-SR04 ultrasonic sensor is used to measure the height of the waste, and the servo motor is used to open or close the Waste Place. The ESP8266 Wi-Fi module is used to send data on the capacity of waste in the waste to the real time database. The support tool for the Real time database used in this study is think speak. Based on the results of research on the system designed in this study, it was found that the use of the HC-SR501 PIR (Passive Infra-Red) sensor as a detection of human body movements in front of the waste place is good enough with a human motion detection distance from 0.1 to 1.5 m. Whereas the use of the HC-SR04 ultrasonic sensor can work by detecting a waste height of at least 2 cm and a maximum of 25 cm in accordance with the design of the height of the waste so that it is sufficient to detect the height of waste in the system built in this study. Thus, proving that the Waste Place Control and Monitoring System Using the HC-SR501 PIR (Passive Infra-Red) Sensor and the HC-SR04 Ultrasonic Sensor Based on Arduino Uno with Internet Access (IoT) can work to carry out their functions properly. Where this automatic waste place can detect movement up to 1.5 m and can detect the volume of waste with a height of up to 25 cm, if the condition of the waste is full, the Light Emitting Diode (LED) will light up as a notification.
